Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since March of that year.

The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional victory, gained dominance to create a final set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
