The speculation around The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team might be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
